Atlast we, the Integratedzz went to an Industrial Visit to Kochi after a dropdown IV plan which was scheduled for Bangalore on 13th of August. Due to serial blasts of Blore, Ahm and Delhi, we were in a situation to drop that plan and came out with a schedule for Kerala on 3rd to 7th of September.

3rd September, 2008:

It was Ganapathi Chathurthi and we got a holiday to pack our things on. We need to catch up Trivandrum Express at 4pm so we all met at Chennai Central around 3 to 3:30 in the evening. Later we started our bon voyage to Kochi and had a great fun in that train journey. We ate several dishes as everybody had food in surplus. We played cards for sometime and chit-chatted most of the time till 1am in the morning. Afterthat, I slept for a couple of hours in the train.

4th September 2008:

It was around 3:30 to 4am in the morning when we reached Ernakulam Junction(Kochi Junction) and we made a little walk to the bus. At that time it was raining heavily and streets are filled with water. The bus driver was little confused about the location of the hotel so he made several reverse gears. Then we boarded into a van and we reached Star Homes Apartments(Four Star hotel) at 5 to 5:30 in the morning. We watched TV for sometime and had a nice bath and got ready for the breakfast at 8am. We ate dosa in Star Homes which costed 45rupees. Later at 10am we reached Hill Palace,Its just a museum consisting of precious things used by Maharaja of Travancore in 11th century. Then we went for the Industrial Visit to Chipsoft, its actually like a browsing centre and they talked about Java,.Net..Blah..blah..blah. After that we got down near Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium and ate South Indian meals. In the afternoon at 3:30pm, we went for boating in the backwaters of Kochi. The boat guide explained about the various ships in the Kochi Harbour. We saw the Taj hotels and some sky scrappers of Kochi. Later we went to Dutch Palace (At first i thought it was Touch palace or Death Palace as that boat guide pronounced like that).I didnt have much interest in watching that museum so we went for shopping and there we got to meet the ECE batch of Anna University. In the evening, around 7 to 7:30pm, we went to a famous temple in Kochi (can’t remember its name). We ate dosa in a roadside shop and most of them refused to eat that food returned to hotel at 9 to 9:30 in the night. We watched TV till midnight and went to sleep. Seven of us stayed in Room no:218 and rest in another room. Actually the mechanical AB Batch of Anna University stayed in that same Apartment on that same day but we hav’nt able to meet them.

5th September 2008:

It was a nice morning and we got up at 5:30, had a nice bath and got ready by 6:30. We went to the 13th floor (i.e terrace of the building) and enjoyed the birds eye view of kochi. At 7am we started our trip to Munnar (its actually 5 to 5:30hrs travel). We got down at 8am and ate nice dosa & poori in a hotel. Later we went to Athirampally Falls at 10:30am where we enjoyed a lot. At around 12 to 12:30 we reached S.N.Tourist homes and left our baggages over there. And we went in search of a non-veg hotel while the other people went to Saravana Bhavan and we finally ended up with Chicken Briyani & Chicken Masala in a restaurant. From there we left for echo point in munnar and we got there by 3:30 to 4pm. In echo point we happened to see Vishnu Vardan(i.e director of billa, pattiyal, arinthum ariyamalum…). Actually he was there for the shooting of the movie Villu (i.e. next Ilayathalapathy vijay movie). Then in echo point we had some fun by shouting some names and hearing their echos. From there we left for Mattupatti dam and reached by 4 to 4:30 and we stayed there for a longtime as some of my mates went for an elephant ride. There i made some shopping by buying some home made chocolates and munnar tea. We also ate the Passion fruit which will be available in munnar. In the meantime we stopped at severeal places and saw the tea farms of munnar. From there we reached hotel by 7pm and we all dressed up for dinner. In the night we searched for a naother non-veg hotel which would be better than the oe we ate in the afternoon. But we all ended up with the same restaurant and ate Chicken Fried rice. Then we returned to S.N.Tourist hotel by 9pm. Asusual we watched TV but we slept around by 10 to 10:30pm as the room got damn chill and went to a deep sleep.

6th September 2008:

We got up by 5 in the morning and started our journey to Kochi by 6:30. At around 7:30am we got down near a  view point and there we drank a cup of tea. We all need to miss our breakfast as we had less time to reach veegaland. We got down near a waterfall and there we spent about 10 to15 minutes. In the afternoon around 12 to 12:30pm, we reached Veegaland and changed our dresses in the locker room. Firstly we went to a 3D generated fear ride which is inside a cave. Then we went to Twister ride, its one of the best ride i hav ever seen. It twists your body in 360 degree rotations and you will be literally floating in air. Afterthat we went to a ship ride which goes like pendulum then and to space gun (i.e.its actually the ranger ride of MGM,chennai which lifts you upside down). Later we went to another ride which takes you to a highest place and make to fall down. After that we spent sometime in laser and fountain show. Meanwhile we went to the restaurant and ate vegetable rice. Then we went for a couple rides in dashing car and had a lot of fun over there.

My Toughie Calculus August 8, 2008

I really had tough times in my first two years of college where I used to get struck with the Calculus. I started avoiding Integral Calculus from my High School, as our exam pattern had a plenty of choices in it. We had 10 chapters in Math and if we are thorough with 6 to 7 chapters then we could easily get 90 to 95+ marks. So i mainly concentrate on Matrix, Vector Algebra, Permutation & Combination, Analytical Geometry, Probability and Differential Calculus and eliminate Integral Calculus. Finally I got just a 90+ mark in Math and I finally entered Anna University in MSc Computer Science (5Years). I havnt performed relatively good in any of my Math assessments and i always had Internals of less than 35 marks out of 50. I scored only D and E grade in Math which can be considered only as a mere pass mark. I remember Fourier, Cauchy, Legendre, Bessels were too toughie for me and i always thought why I got stuck in this hell rather than joining a B.Com or any other Bachelor’s degree. Anyway i am going to crack CAT and it would easier to keep a good acads in B.Com rather than in Engineering. I can blame only one thing is that our High School Pattern with too many choices which made me easier to leave out integrals and suffer a lot in my college acads.

My NSO camp at CEG… July 5, 2008

Actually we are ruled out of the NSO (National Sports Organisation) camp 2007 due to lack of attendance. But its not a great deal, even if we have attended the camp we would have got the certificate. But most of us were in dilemma whether to attend NSO camp or not, then later we decided to attend the camp next year. During that time, I were in IIMA for my brother’s admissions and i had no chance of attending the camp. I always wanted to join NSS, but out of compulsion i made my choice to NSO as most of my mates joined NSO. We all met on June 25th morning near canteen and as we are 2nd years we didnt have a separate NSO number. We got delayed and in the evening we occupied Room no:50 in Block 3, where i used to be in my 4th sem. Later we went to the ground, where we got to opt any one of the games and we opted volleyball. We had a lap in the hostel and so we used to watch movies at night.

NSO Work Plan :

6:00am-Jogging in the ground

6:30am-Game Practice (Session I)

8:30am-Breakfast

10:00am-Class Room Lecture(First Aid/Chess)

12:30pm-Lunch

4:00pm-Game Practice (Session II)

7:30pm-Dinner

We were ten of us and used to sleep in a single room. Bathing is one of the toughest job as we had only one bucket for 10 of us. Tomorrow morning we had our volleyball practice session and attended First Aid course at 10:00am. Later in the evening, we changed our game and opted Thai-Chi (combi of Kung fu and meditation). I even thought whether i have caught into wrong job after watching some of the Kung Fu moves. Later i got used to it and i leave out some of the faster moves. We watched movies as usual and got up late in the morning and we missed the morning session and went for dasavatharam matinee. From that day we started bunking NSO like anything. On July 2nd, the cross country race was held and on 3rd July we had the camp fire and we were almost at the end of the NSO camp. In the meantime, i was busy with my hostel admissions and i got alloted in Room no:32 in Block 11. On July 4th,we had only to sign in the NSO attendance sheet. It all ended at 4pm in the evening and i reached home at 8pm.

I get to know about this technology due to the release of Apple iPhone3G in July. 3G represents the third generation of wireless communication. We watch online TV in a mobile phone supported EDGE and they correspond to the 2G technology. Actually 3G is the advanced version of 2G which makes the movies to buffer 2.4 times faster than EDGE. 3G technology uses a protocol called HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) to download data fast over UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) networks. 3G has a feature of multitasking, simultaneously you can talk on the phone while surfing the web. HSDPA protocol support down-link speeds of 1.8, 3.6, 7.2 and 14.4 Mbit/s and a maximum of 42Mbit/s with HSPA+ protocol. 4G technology are used to watch Internet TV in most of the countries including US. The other features of iPhone are GPS(Global Positioning System) which tracks and monitors the location where the mobile is used and provides the direction to the destination point.

Features of iPhone:

iPhone has a very sleek design of just 12mm in thickness and it weighs 130g. It is also Quad Band and it supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE with GSM of 850/900/1800/1900. iPhone has 3.5inch widescreen LCD with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels at 163ppi and it supports touch screen interface with a home button. iphone has its own iPhone OS v2.0 with storage capacity of 8 or 16 GB Flash Memory. The other specification includes Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), EDGE and with Bluetooth 2.0EDR Technology, Assisted GPS (A-GPS), with detection of cell towers and Wi-Fi networks. It has a 2 megapixel camera with geotagging facility. It has a Lithium-ion Polymer battery with up to 10 hours of 2G talk, 5 hours of 3G talk, 5 (3G) or 6 (Wi-Fi) hours of Internet use, 7 hours of video playback, and up to 24 hours of audio playback, lasting over 300 hours on standby. The 8GB iPhone will be available at a very low price of US$199 while the 16GB will be at US $299. It is going to be released in two colours black or white in most of the countries (the list doesnt include India)

Dasavatharam June 28, 2008

Yesterday only i saw the movie Dasavatharam -the magnum opus of the year 2008, though it had hit the screens a two weeks before. Once again Kamal fails to satisfy his audience with his own script. The movie is all about to have Kamal Haasan in ten different roles and for that they have made a story screenplay. I don’t know why they gave a great hype for this film, as its a usual tamil film with Kamal in different roles. Everyone must compromise with the story as it is a tough job to link all the characters within a limited 180 minutes. Inorder to deliver the characterisation of ten different roles the movie has exceeded the 180 minutes mark and this makes the audience much more uncomfortable. The movie looks like a extended version of Kamal’s aalavandhaan where he played two contrasting characters. But in Dasavatharam he had done with loads of makeups but in then different roles. The CG works and visual effects of the film are not upto to the level but its far superior when compared to any other tamil movies especially in the Tsunami climax. Most of the makeups are not looking genuine and character looks like a comic character especially the Fletcher. Kamal’s characters can be identified easily due to over makeups on their faces. But Kamal have done some work by bringing some difference in mannerisms of characters. All this credit goes to the legend Kamal Hassan who have done work perfectly. The stunts are different which we haven’t seen in any of the tamil movies. I didnt like the first fifteen minutes and i think it doesnt have any relevance to the film, but it all depends on the director as they have created a story with ten different roles and it should be that way. Another thing is that why they have made with Himesh rather they would have done with some other Kollywood Music Directors as the song are not much effective and appealing. “Ulaga Nayagane” song which is one of the best in Dasavatharam songs and they spoiled that by using it in the credits section of the movie. And even i thought why they made song sequence in the movie instead they might have had some more BGMs. Its a good sign to see big budgeted tamil movies with Anniyan (2005), Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu(2006)-Under 30 crores, Sivaji(2007)-90 crores and Dasavatharam(2008)-165 crores.

Comments: Watch Kamal in different roles..not to expect more than that..

Lords of the 1983… June 25, 2008

It has been 25 years since India celebrated its glorious win against West Indies in the lands of Lords. Though i was not born at that time, I cannot comment that cricket match exactly. I remember the amazing catch of Viv Richards took by our Indian Captain Kapil Dev by running backwards which i have seen in most of the highlights of that match. India ended up with only 183 runs on their board eventhough they had a 60 over match at that time. Our Tamilian, Kris Srikanth made the highest score of 38 and most of them got out under 30s. But the Indians bowlers struggled a bit initially especially Madan Lal. It was added by Amarnath bowling figures of 3 wickets for 12 in 7 overs. Indians were ablt to bowl out the West Indies for 140 runs. We the indians must proud of that emphatic win against west indies which happened 25 years ago. Unfortunately, a majestic 175* knock by Kapil Dev in the league stage with Zimbabwe was not captured on camera and its rare to see those significant memories. Its one memory we have to cherish with. Hope India might win in 2011.

Mozilla 3 hits 8 million downloads June 20, 2008

I am using Mozilla Firefox 2 and i was not aware of that Mozilla Firefox 3[Download] has been released. Just now came to know the fact that it created a Guinness World Record of maximum no of downloads in a single day. Mozilla Firefox 3 was officially released on June 17, 2008 and it has 8 million hits on the first day of its release itself and it is named as “Download Day 2008”. Mozilla 3 has 12 million hits till today. This popularity is enough to tell its use. In the cold war between IE and Mozilla Firefox,it is undoubtedly Firefox is one which is going to be honoured as the best and also as per the Google Statistics. The reasons are: The download time of Mozilla is in 1 or 2minutes but for IE it takes 20 to 25 minutes and it asks to close all windows and need a reboot i think so. Next the plugins are free in Mozilla but IE sucks because we need to buy those plugins. Its always the problem with Bill Gates we have to pay him for everything. Mozilla is more sustainable to security threats and phishing attacks but IE allows a lot of popups and ads. With the power of Firefox 3 you can be able to do anything through the plugins while you are browsing the net.

If your are an IE user, I recommend you to change to Mozilla without any hesitation.

After I finished my second year exams,I watched a glimpse of this movie வெள்ளித்திரை. Prakash Raj and his team always comes with a message conveying movie. In this movie they have come to say

“கதை தான் ஹீரோவ உருவாக்கும் ஆனா ஹீரோவே கதை இல்ல”.

This is actually a dialogue by Prakash Raj in this movie which depicts the storyline tag. The story behind வெள்ளித்திரை is that two contrasting characters சரவணன்(Prithvi Raj) who is an upcoming storywriting cum director and கண்ணையன்(Prakash Raj) who is walking to get a chance as hero. At one point of time, Prakash Raj gets copyrights of Prithvi Raj’s story in his absence and he becomes a great actor in the fame of Dilip Kanth. Prakash Raj starts doing commercial films which is depicted to Today’s Trend in Tamil Cinema where our present day actors like விஜய்,அஜித்,(too many to mention) do to maintain their heroic image. Prithvi Raj stays in the cinema field as an unknown Asst.Director. Later,Prithvi raj is requested to do a movie with Prakash Raj by a well known producer.Later part of the story is that whether he completed the movie with Dilip Kanth’s cooperation or not. In an interview with Dilip Kanth in the movie, he was interviewed that what he would have become if he hasnt come to cinema and he replies

“நான் சினிமாவுக்கு நடிக்க வருலேனா,சினிமா என்ன ஆயிருக்கும் அதை நீங்க யோசிக்கணும்”.

This reflects the two faces of every celebrity before and after entering the movie field.

Prakash Raj’s other notable works are அழகிய தீயே, கண்ட நாள் முதல் and மொழி which are not of commercial value but still conveying a good message to the crowd.

Living in an imaginary World is not so far when you have Google who are creating a Virtual World for you. I recently noticed many cities are made up in 3D view which was not there a 6 months ago. Google first acquired the virtual globe program from the Keyhole Inc. in 2004 which formerly now known as “Google Earth”. Google Earth works in Keyhole Markup language the one in which it was formerly developed. Actually the 2D images of the earth are the pictures captured by the satellites launched by NASA. Later in 2007, out of Google’s Interest they used Sketchup, a 3-D modelling program to construct 3D buildings and structures. They added added a new feature called Google Sky and they are nothing but the telescopic pictures provided by the Space Institute at Baltimore. In June 2008,they completed the Disneyland in the 3D view and it is incorporated in the Google Earth 4.2. In Google Earth 4.3[Download],they launched with integrated Street View which provides 360° panoramic street-level views and allows users to view parts of selected cities and their surrounding metropolitan areas at ground level.

On June 1st, Rajasthan Royals won the maiden DLF Indian Premier League 2008 at the nick of the last ball and what an exciting match it was. I don’t think we could have asked for a better finale to a most entertaining tournament in this summer. Chennai Super Kings fought very well and found unlucky in the end. The way M.S.Dhoni encouraged his team after the last ball was bowled shows his temperment and dedication towards the game. It all happens in a couple of overs in the Twenty-Twenty tournament as it is the compressed version of the game. The team which rectifies their mistakes within quicker becomes the winner as their is no time for recovery.IPL had many celebrities like Shah Rukh, Preity Zinta Aamir Khan and goes on…

We had some outstanding & some disappointing performances in the tournament :

Brenden McCullum(NZ) smashed a massive 158* from 71balls with 13 sixes and 10 fours against the Royal Challengers made the Kolkata Knight riders to feel better with a commanding win with a margin of 140 runs. Then the outstanding performance from Micheal Hussey(AUS) for Chennai Super Kings with 116 from 54 balls which led their team to pose the Highest total of 240/5 in the IPL. While in Deccan Chargers bowled 28 extras(b 4,lb 8,w 15,nb 1) and it was not fair as they were defending a low total of 110 against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The orange cap winner the IPL is Shaun Marsh from Western Australia with his 616 runs at an average of 68.44 with an strike rate of 139.68 in 11 matches. He added a century and 5 half centuries to his run tally.Sanath Jayasuriya holds the record of Highest number of sixes with 31 sixes. B AKhil of Royal Challengers made a 27* from 7 balls with 3 sixes and 2 fours with a strike rate of 385(i.e a four every ball)to make his team to win against the Deccan Chargers. The purple cap winner Sohail Tanvir struck 22 wickets from his ball with outstanding bowling figures of 6/14 made Chennai Super Kings to low total of 109. He has the bowling average of 10.80 and economy rate of 6.46. He is the only player to get two 4wicket hauls in the tournament. The most runs conceded by a bowler in a match is 59 runs by RP Singh at an economy rate of under 15 runs/over. Sachin Tendulkar becomes the most catches caught in an innings with 4 catches which also produced the Kolkata Knight Riders to perform a nightmare innings with only 67 runs on the board. The Mumbai Indians comprehensively won that match in 33 balls with firepower of Sanath Jayasuriya. The highest run partnership was made by Adam Gilchrist and VVS Laxman with 155*. We also noticed some hatricks in the tournament the first one was Lakshmipathy Balaji against KingsXI Punjab, then Amit Mishra against Deccan Chargers, atlast M Ntini against Kolkata Knight Riders. Shane Watson won the Man of the Series award for his 472 runs from his bat and 17 wickets from his ball. Goswami of Royal Challengers won the outstanding player under 19 category award. Chennai Super Kings won the Fair play Kingfisher Award with 134.5 in 14 matches(max 140).

The 44day journey finally ended with Rajasthan Royals holding the cup and celebrating with fireworks exploding infront of a massive crowd with many celebrities and business persons cheering their Team.Hope for next IPL on 2009 Summer.
