I have seen this word before but i havn’t known the real meaning of the word “LOL”[Wiki]. Once i went to Aamir Khan‘s chatroom and there i found some guys waiting for aamir khan to come online. Aamir Khan usually comes online between 2 to 4 A.M. and after that he sleeps for 4 hours and starts his workout in the morning at 8 A.M. In the meantime in the chatroom, there was a debate about Indian Cricket Management between them due to the IPL fever. There i found a lot of these words. When i searched Wiki I found that its abbreviation is “laughing out loud” or “laugh out loud” and it is used to express the bodily reactions through the Internet. In the search for lol, I found three more Internet slangs “ROFTL”, “BWL” and “BFN”. The word “ROFTL” means “roll(ing) on the floor laughing” while the word “BWL” means “bursting with laughter” and “BFN” means “bye for now”.

Note:

It is not true that Aamir Khan always sleeps at 4 A.M. He might change his work schedule.

Best game ever… May 15, 2008

Firstly i would like to convey that i am a big fan of Grand Theft Auto Series and i am very upset to know that GTA 4 wont be released in PC Platform. Though i havnt played the first two versions of the GTA series as they are not in the kind of third person shooters. In my 9th grade, I first started with GTA 3 when my brother bought it from one of his classmates. It was nice to have a sanbox style approach for the game and finished that game in 3 months. Then I played Vice City which was even more easier for me but i havnt finished the toy helicoptor mission in the construction building and overall its a nice game and things go pretty fast. In San andreas, its a ultimate time killer only for those who sacrifices their precious time for that bloody game as it as restaurant, gym, barber shop, cloth store, strip clubs, driving school and hell a lot of things. We have to do things as in reality and it takes most of the gaming time thus causing the gameplay boring. I played for a couple of weeks and got frustrated with that GTA. I came to know that GTA 4 has been released and its the best game ever as the game ranking in every website is 10/10. Its trulely because of its graphics, gameplay and the delay in the release of this edition.

They have replicated the present day New York city as the Liberty city. They introduced about 15 multiplayer modes. Every car has a GPS device which positions the character where he is right now and help to find the route for his destination place. The new GTA character carries a mobile phone with him is the unique feature of this game.He can 911 and ask help and can send and receive sms. The city has a number of “TW@” cybercafes where the GTA character can browse a number of fictitious websites and can receive and send mails via his email ID. This sounds something nice and I hope that next version of GTA should be released in PC platform and it might recommand a DirectX 10 technology.

We had a happy vacation and during that one month I went to IIMA for 3 days. Our 2nd year started in July 5, 2007 and i was approaching the hostel office for the admission of hostel. Finally got a admission to hostel and joined in June 23, 2007 and my alloted Room no:26 but i used to be only at Room no:44 in Block III. As i joined hostel one year later, i couldnt make friends easier as they were all set with their friends. I used to me with my classmates most of the time and later i get to some of the Mech juntas. We had a nice time during our Juniors freshers meet “Agni”. After 6 months, I conquered the Room no:48 since there were only two mates in the room. In Room no:48, I get to know some of the Electronic media students who were always dreaming about flash and documentary film making. We had some enjoyable memories during Kurukshetra and Techofes. In Kurukshetra, we sat as audience in many biz events and we came across the robotics arena quite a few times. In Techofes, i spent only two nights there and left home as it was quite boring for me. On February 19, 2008 I lost my Nokia 6600 in Room no: 48 and i can still remember that incident. I took my desktop to Room no: 48 and i can remember those moments of playing Cricket 07, Prince of Persia and AOE. At times we use for study some stuff also especially Graphics and Animation using C Language. Finally i conquested Room no:50 for only a month and the April month was a terrible one since we have water only in the morning and that too only for 2 to 3 hours and most of the times we dont have electricity in the afternoon from 12:30pm to 4:30pm. My second year was a period of my memorable hostel life.

Vista is less vulnerable to virus attacks… May 9, 2008

I am presently using a dual OS desktop with multiple partitions and using Windows XP Professional SP3 and Windows Vista Ultimate SP1. After much thoughts i found to see that Vista is less prone to virus attacks. Windows XP is very efficient for systems of configurations with 512 RAM or 1GB RAM. But if you are having 2GB RAM one should prefer Vista. Though after installation of Service Pack 1 for Vista, i couldnt be able to play some of the games that would be playable in XP but still i prefer Vista because of DirectX10 gaming which will the future gaming. When i was in hostel, i even got some of the DirectX10 game demos and it didnt work in my Vista as I need a DirectX10 compatible PCI graphics card. Vista has greater High Definition support than XP. It has an advanced Media center and Movie maker when compared with XP Media center Edition. Although I have antivirus in XP, i still get affected by the virus somehow or the other. But i wont get this problem in Vista. Vista Ultimate has many applications and most of them i havnt used. Vista has better security than XP. The main problem with Vista is that you need to install only Vista compatible softwares which were only a few at the beginning but now we a ample number of resources.

P.S:

Its highly recommended not to install Vista in 1GB or 512MB or lower which would degrade your performance then you might be able to run only Vista and not your applications efficiently.

Advantages of NTFS partition February 18, 2008

The NTFS file system, introduced with first version of Windows NT, is a completely different file system from FAT. It provides increased security, file–by–file compression, quotas, and even encryption. It is the default file system for new installations of Windows XP, and if you’re doing an upgrade from a previous version of Windows, you’ll be asked if you want to convert your existing file systems to NTFS. Its a default requirement for Windows Vista. You can convert FAT16 or FAT32 volumes to NTFS at any point. Just remember that you can’t easily go back to FAT or FAT32 (without reformatting the drive or partition), and i bet you wont think of it. For this reason, many system administrators, myself included, used to recommend that users format at least a small partition at the beginning of their main hard disk as FAT. But with the enhanced recovery abilities built into Windows XP (more on that in a future column), I don’t think it’s necessary or desirable to create that initial FAT partition.

When to Use FAT or FAT32?

If you’re running more than one operating system on a single computer (Dual OS), you will definitely need to format some of your volumes as FAT. Any programs or data that need to be accessed by more than one operating system on that computer should be stored on a FAT16 or possibly FAT32 volume. But keep in mind that you have no security for data on a FAT16 or FAT32 volume and any one with access to the computer can read, change, or even delete any file that is stored on a FAT16 or FAT32 partition. So do not store personal files on partitions formatted with FAT file systems.

P.S:

Its recommended to use NTFS rather than FAT when you have an individual system.

Why AMD beats Intel? February 5, 2008

In January 2008, I bought a 2.1Ghz AMD Athlon X2 4000+(2.4K bux) with ASUS motherboard(2.5K bux) and also Transcend 2GB DDR2 RAM(1.7K bux). Actually I went to buy only a 1GB DDR RAM for 1.5K bux and the store wala told me that only DDR2 RAM are in current trend and the prices of DDR RAM might be double the prices of DDR2 RAM. So it opted me to buy a new motherboard compatible for DDR2 RAM and a processor of low budget in the AMD Athlon X2 Series. AMD is always has a price tag of 300 to 500 bux less than the Intel products. And now its working very well. Later, i saw that my configuration is the mid-range in the gaming arena and felt pretty happy about it.

According to a benchmark test with 2.4Ghz AMD Athlon 4800+ chip and 3.2Ghz Intel Pentium dual core Express Edition, AMD Athlon dual core is rated as the best in all aspects with Intel and it provides a simultaneous 32bit and 64bit tasking. Intel was a bit late to the 64bit technology, only a year later after AMD introduced Athlon 64bit technology. While in Intel only a few processors are of 64bit technology and it was a drawback in the cold war between them. I could experience a better gaming performance with my AMD Athlon X2 4000+ and ATI Radeon X550 256MB DDR technology. There were many faults in AMD a few years ago that the processors get heated up very quickly. But these are rectified and they have introduced the Cool and Quiet Technology in the recent times. Though Intel has the best processors, they are slightly costly and everyone cannot afford it.

I recommand AMD as the best value for your money…

Shortest route in Life… July 20, 2007

I have always wondered about the people who get a MBBS degree after 5 to 6 years of hardship and then crack the CAT to get into IIMs. By the time they passout from IIM it would be around 7 to 8 years in the career benchmark to start earning a buck. The best match is to be a IIMA grad with an IIT background. But most of the things in life doesnt happen in the best way. One of the best routes is by getting educated in DPS, Delhi or KV or anyother reputed CBSE school and starting his/her IIT plans right from 9th grade or else after finishing 12thgrade, joining B.com in any reputed universitites in the country and then getting into IIMA. This option requires only 5 years of his/her life and after that he/she might see a lot of bux in the Management world. The cgpa doesn’t matter how low they are until you crack CAT and GD. Only in the PI you need to answer valid reasons to your poor scores in UG. You may be a average student in your Acads, but you must have exceptional reading and speaking capabilities to survive the WIMWIian life. After that once you are inside the IIMs they are considering only the cgpa for the summer placements and it would be relatively easier to get a good score in B.com than an IITian. The most important thing is that you have completed your Bachelors Degree in a year less than that of an IITian. The main drawback of a non-IITian is that you may not be good at analytical approach but an IITian has this brilliant quality which is mostly required to survive in IIMA. Another good news is that, as about 90 to 95 percent of the IIMs juntas are from engineering background, he/she could stand unique among the crowd.

After I finished my 1st year exams, I started watching Prison Break and it is one of the best thrilling serials of all time. Though i happened to watch only the Season 1, later i couldnt get a chance to view the other two seasons. I watched the whole 22 episodes in a week which was broadcasted for a year in FOX. The screenplay of the serial seems to be very fast as you get a experience of watching a two hour movie. I am writing this blog only after watching the first season alone, so i dont know what the story in the season 2 and 3. The plot is about the hero Scofield who is graduated as a structural engineer and can do math calculations perfectly. He is sent inside the prison to help another prisoner named Lincoln Burrows, who is accused for the murder Vice Prisident’s brother of United States. Lincoln was nothing but the brohter of Scofield. Scofield looks to be calculative in his every step he makes and that makes the serial a thrilling one in each and every minute. Scofield sought the help of his six inmates in the prison to work out hos masterplan. Although it has similarities with the classic film “The Great Escape”, but Prison Break is something different and a good creative thinking by the director Paul Scheuring. They had miss understanding between the inmates and finally a six of them managed to escape. This serial had the most number of viewers in United States of about 12.1 millions. In the September fall, they are going to broadcast the fourth season of Prison Break.

I got a chance to visit the prestigious IIMA as my brother got selected to study among the 2007 PGP batch. We all started by Navajeevan Express on June 17, 2007. It took the whole day of June 18 and we reached Ahmedabad at 7pm. The sun hasnt set yet and it was brighter as evening. We reached IIM, Vastrapur by 8pm via autorickshaw and on the way we drank a cup of tea in a road shop. My brother approached Mr.Jones and he gave him the key to Room no:6 in Dorm 23. Actually Block 23 is located in New campus and for that need to walk through the 132-feet underpass and in the meanwhile my brother got his alloted room in Dorm 18 Room no:2 which is in the old campus. We ate our dinner at the IIMA canteen. On the next day morning we went to my brother’s room at Block 18, cleaned it and made it look neat. We had our afternoon meal at the canteen that is exactly opposite to class room 9. Later in the evening, we went to a shopping market in Ahm and purchased some things like pillow, bed sheet and other necessary goodies. After returning we ate and slept in Dorm 23. On June 20, my brother approached the SBI bank for his educational loan and it took the most of the day and on the next day morning, my brother went to collect his first term books. In the evening at 4pm we got a chance to hear the speech of Dr.Atul Dholakia, the former director of IIMA. He presented the statistics of the IIMA and said that since 2001, IIMA ranks the No:1 B-school among the Top B-schools in Asia. After the speech, we got to meet some of the tamilian gangs in IIMA. On June 21, 6am we started our return journey to chennai and reached chennai on June 22, 4pm. I enjoyed that trip and its afterall a trip for me and nothing else. After that visit, I made up my mind to crack CAT 2010 and get into that IIMA Heaven…

KGB Archiver May 25, 2007

Compression is one of the most essential thing while sending a file through email. Instead of attaching ten pictures and sending a mail, we would a attach a single compressed zip file which saves us time. There wont be any much difference in their sizes(uncompressed file and a zip file). It might just compress it to 70% or 80% of its total size. On the otherside, ripped games using UHARC compresser which would compress the game size to 1/10 of its actual size.Yet it requires only 5 to 10 minutes to decompress. Then the 7zip archiver also couldnt make much difference in the compression it is also similar to UHARC compression.

Do you think that it is possible to compress 1GB file in just 1MB?

It is possible with the KGB archiver[Download] which compresses to about 1/100 of its actual size and more than that..

Can you imagine a 5GB Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas in just 64KB file?

Download:

exploited

But it takes about 3 to 4 hours of decompression. You should compromise in that.

Two Major products of Microsoft that are compressed to very extreme and really working. Since they are compressed extreme, it takes some time for the installation. But you could see the 700MB file of the OS soon after the extraction of this rar file which takes less than a minute. Just download and decompress and i can assure the installation. No one losses anything in just trying a 4MB file.

Installation Notes:

For extracting Office 2007, install beforehand KGB Archiver that existed in zip archive, and for Vista can be mounted in Daemon Tools or any other software of that kind.
