Lords of the 1983… June 25, 2008

It has been 25 years since India celebrated its glorious win against West Indies in the lands of Lords. Though i was not born at that time, I cannot comment that cricket match exactly. I remember the amazing catch of Viv Richards took by our Indian Captain Kapil Dev by running backwards which i have seen in most of the highlights of that match. India ended up with only 183 runs on their board eventhough they had a 60 over match at that time. Our Tamilian, Kris Srikanth made the highest score of 38 and most of them got out under 30s. But the Indians bowlers struggled a bit initially especially Madan Lal. It was added by Amarnath bowling figures of 3 wickets for 12 in 7 overs. Indians were ablt to bowl out the West Indies for 140 runs. We the indians must proud of that emphatic win against west indies which happened 25 years ago. Unfortunately, a majestic 175* knock by Kapil Dev in the league stage with Zimbabwe was not captured on camera and its rare to see those significant memories. Its one memory we have to cherish with. Hope India might win in 2011.

On June 1st, Rajasthan Royals won the maiden DLF Indian Premier League 2008 at the nick of the last ball and what an exciting match it was. I don’t think we could have asked for a better finale to a most entertaining tournament in this summer. Chennai Super Kings fought very well and found unlucky in the end. The way M.S.Dhoni encouraged his team after the last ball was bowled shows his temperment and dedication towards the game. It all happens in a couple of overs in the Twenty-Twenty tournament as it is the compressed version of the game. The team which rectifies their mistakes within quicker becomes the winner as their is no time for recovery.IPL had many celebrities like Shah Rukh, Preity Zinta Aamir Khan and goes on…

We had some outstanding & some disappointing performances in the tournament :

Brenden McCullum(NZ) smashed a massive 158* from 71balls with 13 sixes and 10 fours against the Royal Challengers made the Kolkata Knight riders to feel better with a commanding win with a margin of 140 runs. Then the outstanding performance from Micheal Hussey(AUS) for Chennai Super Kings with 116 from 54 balls which led their team to pose the Highest total of 240/5 in the IPL. While in Deccan Chargers bowled 28 extras(b 4,lb 8,w 15,nb 1) and it was not fair as they were defending a low total of 110 against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The orange cap winner the IPL is Shaun Marsh from Western Australia with his 616 runs at an average of 68.44 with an strike rate of 139.68 in 11 matches. He added a century and 5 half centuries to his run tally.Sanath Jayasuriya holds the record of Highest number of sixes with 31 sixes. B AKhil of Royal Challengers made a 27* from 7 balls with 3 sixes and 2 fours with a strike rate of 385(i.e a four every ball)to make his team to win against the Deccan Chargers. The purple cap winner Sohail Tanvir struck 22 wickets from his ball with outstanding bowling figures of 6/14 made Chennai Super Kings to low total of 109. He has the bowling average of 10.80 and economy rate of 6.46. He is the only player to get two 4wicket hauls in the tournament. The most runs conceded by a bowler in a match is 59 runs by RP Singh at an economy rate of under 15 runs/over. Sachin Tendulkar becomes the most catches caught in an innings with 4 catches which also produced the Kolkata Knight Riders to perform a nightmare innings with only 67 runs on the board. The Mumbai Indians comprehensively won that match in 33 balls with firepower of Sanath Jayasuriya. The highest run partnership was made by Adam Gilchrist and VVS Laxman with 155*. We also noticed some hatricks in the tournament the first one was Lakshmipathy Balaji against KingsXI Punjab, then Amit Mishra against Deccan Chargers, atlast M Ntini against Kolkata Knight Riders. Shane Watson won the Man of the Series award for his 472 runs from his bat and 17 wickets from his ball. Goswami of Royal Challengers won the outstanding player under 19 category award. Chennai Super Kings won the Fair play Kingfisher Award with 134.5 in 14 matches(max 140).

The 44day journey finally ended with Rajasthan Royals holding the cup and celebrating with fireworks exploding infront of a massive crowd with many celebrities and business persons cheering their Team.Hope for next IPL on 2009 Summer.

I write this blog to share my experiences about my visit to Delhi. I had went to Delhi once and we started on March 24,2007 by Red Fort Express as my brother need to pay his fees for an admission seat in FMS, Delhi. It took the whole day of March 25 “The day for the exit of Indian team from the World cup 2007 as they lost that match to Srilanka” for the journey and the train was just 4 hours late. We reached the railway station at 11am. My brother had to pay fees only on March 27 so we decided to visit places in Delhi. We approached a tourist agency and rented a cab for 800 bux then we booked a room in The Delhi Regency hotel in Pahar Ganj. Next we ate a north indian style dosa and went to the famous Indira Gandhi Museum which is actually her house and got renovated as museum after her assassination. Later, the India Gate-the landmark of Delhi and Delhi Haat-marketplace in Delhi. I also came across to see the famous AIIMS institute and IITD. In the afternoon we saw Lotus Temple and we left out Qutab Minar as it was far away from our place and finally returned to Connaught circle in the evening at 7pm. We spent sometime on the lawns of Connaught circle and decided to go to Karol Bagh via Delhi Metro Train. We made some shopping in the Karol Bagh and later went to a nice cake shop “Bikanar Wala” and bought some cakes and returned to hotel via autorickshaw. On the next day morning we started to walk and reached Chandni Chowk and had our breakfast at McDonalds and hired a richshaw to reach Red fort. It was not allowed for public to go inside due to some terrorist threat at that time. Then we went to Delhi Zoo and found most of the cages to be empty. And after coming out of the zoo, me and my dad waited infront of Delhi Zoo for an hour and in the meanwhile my brother and mom went to pay the fees at FMS. After they returned we went to the Domestic Airport in Delhi via autorickshaw and returned home at 11pm.
